Keywords For SEO | Relevant, Specific Keywords

Posted on 12. Jun, 2011 by in SEO Strategies

Keywords are single words or phrases that actually describe the theme of your published content and help to increase SEO. Whether it’s an article of some sort, a blog post or video, using relevant, specific keywords in your content plays a major role in the way web search engines decide how to categorize your website.

By focusing on keywords and keyword phrases, spiders and crawlers pick up on the topic of your content. The whole point is to have your content found in the huge sea of text that comprises the internet.

Search engines are all about relevancy. Using keywords for search engine optimization in every article you write and publish online and in every post you add to your blog is very important. The more relevant and specific your keywords are to the site you are using them on, the better rankings you will get. So, if you’re trying to get ranked high in Google and other search engines, you must know how to apply keywords and know which ones are the most relevant for your niche.

The Google Adwords Keyword Tool will help you with this. As well as being an important tool for researching words for your website, it gives you results for the number of searches a keyword is receiving and other keywords similar to the one you are searching.

Keywords help a bot determine what your page is about and rankings depend on credibility established by incoming links from credible sites and meta description. However, the best Search Engine Optimization happens on the back end of a site.

People around the world are searching the internet constantly. They search day and night by typing specific words into a search engine like Google. Using relevant keywords in your content will help them find your website first instead of someone else’s.

Be a “detective” searching for the most relevant words, phrases and buzz words to add value to your your articles.

Always leave apparent clues that search engines notice when looking for content similar to yours. Think of the spiders and crawlers as the detectives, the Sherlock Holmes’ looking for keywords, which are the clues.

With images, video and audio content use keywords in the tags, descriptions and titles to attract visitors. When a search engine spider scans the internet to find new web content, all new pages and posts are indexed from keywords in the text, titles and tags.

Write for readability and to hold the reader’s attention. Try writing your content first then go back and refine your keywords. Allow your writing to flow naturally and take care not to chop it up with over used keywords just for SEO purposes; instead, craft your sentences creatively so people will stay, not be bored, and keep on reading.

Using the free Google Keyword Tool, assess how popular your keywords are. Discover how many times internet users search the web using specific words then select the popular words that are specifically related to the topic you are writing about and include them in your content.

Leave a trail of clues for the web crawlers and spiders by keeping your content keyword rich but avoid overusage; you don’t want to be dull and boring nor penalized for ‘keyword stuffing’.

Wishing You Every Success Always,

Another great article, Loren. Having the right keywords in your posts does get you more targeted traffic.

One trick I use to optimize posts is http://articlejockey.com It is free and helps you get the right mix of keywords in an article.

I agree with you that you write for good content and then keyword optimize, and articlejockey makes this a simple task.

My only complaint is that you give away too much good stuff for free!!

  4. Yes I too didn’t pay attention to keywords in the beginning Terry. You are right Loren they are so important. Not only do we need to make things easy for people but also the bots and spiders! :-)

Hi Loren – I have been using keywords in my posts for about a year and it is just now starting to show well. It really gets to be “second nature” after awhile and gets much easier. Thanks for this info!
